Dorman Andrew Bell

On Sunday, Aug. 30, 2020, Dorman Andrew Bell was taken into the arms of his Lord.

Dorman was born May 24, 1928, to Thomas Andrew Bell and Lena Pearl Turner Bell in Foreman, Ark. He graduated Independence High School in Independence, Ore. After two years of honorable service in the Navy, he married Joyce Berry, the love of his life.

Dorman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Arkansas A&M in Monticello, Arkansas. He was treasurer of the National Honor Society and was selected Who’s Who Among Students in Colleges and Universities.

Dorman was employed by Dow Chemical in Freeport for 28 years. Following retirement, he worked for Beckman and IBM. Dorman was also an avid genealogist. He and his wife Joyce traveled throughout the United States including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.

An ordained deacon in the Baptist church, he sang in the choir and taught youth groups in the church. He later sang in The Bosque River Boys Gospel Quartet. Dorman set a wonderful example for friends and family with his music ministry and Christian leadership. One of his favorite scriptures was Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”

At the age of 92, Dorman leaves behind his beloved wife Joyce; along with five children, Letha Brashear (husband Ken), Linda Polk, Leah Mueller (husband Casey) Eddie Bell (wife Janice), and Steve Bell (wife Robin). He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as several nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial will follow in the Locklin Cemetery near San Gabriel. Visitation is also Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
