Is your pet microchipped?

Is your dog, cat, cat, tortoise, ferret, horse, or other pet microchipped? 

If so, great! Is your chip registration up-to-date on the registry? If not, please make that update. 

If your pet isn’t microchipped, let me suggest why it might be a good idea. 

Even if your pet wears a collar with identifying tag (if you live in Cameron or Rockdale, a collar with current rabies tag is required by city ordinance), collars can get lost. 

The microchip is an inert device the size of a grain of rice injected under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades which an electronic reader can scan to recover the number recorded on it. That number can be searched via an internet site and matched up with you, and the registration service can alert you about where your pet is. If your pet goes missing, you can put out an alert via the registration service and people in your area subscribed to the service will get the alerts to help get you reunited. 

Milam Touch of Love implants microchips in dogs and cats as a community service. 

We suggest a $10 donation, but don’t let a lack of funds keep you from getting this for your beloved pet. We also do this as part of our low-cost Snip and Chip event for registered animals. 

Since we’re not doing too many public events yet, we’ll also schedule just microchipping in conjunction with these events. Cameron’s ACO has our chips on hand and can implant them as well — schedule a time with her. We’ll have two wellness afternoons scheduled in October (stay tuned for details), and we’ll be available to chip then, too.
