COVID UPDATE: No new cases in county

It was a red-letter day for Milam County yesterday as no new COVID-19 cases were announced.

"It was another important day for Milam County as we had no new PCR or antigen cases to report," County Judge Steve Young said. "Further, four were discharged from our active lists and no one was admitted to a hospital. We tested twelve individuals in Milano today, but there were no positive results. Tomorrow we will test in Cameron at the fire station from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. If you are a Milam County resident with symptoms, please come see us."

COVID-19 cases seem to be on the downward slide over the last few weeks, but Milam County added another death last week.

There are 488 total cases and 14 active cases in the county as of Thursday morning.

There are currently three individuals in a hospital and two are on ventilators.

The county tested 22 individuals in Rockdale using PCR tests, but the test results had not been received as of Tuesday. Nine individuals were tested in Thorndale Tuesday using antigen tests and three were positive.

“The testing is yielding good benefits as evidenced by the dwindling number of confirmed cases,” Young said. “A special thanks to the mayors and city council members for being so supportive and willing to combine its own COVID grant money with the county to provide this needed testing service. You can be proud to live in a place where city and county government is working together to provide a safer place to live.

At least one person in Gause ISD has tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a letter from Gause ISD Superintendent Brad Jones, parents and students were alerted to a possible exposure to a person that tested positive between Sept. 9 and 11.

The Milam County Health Department has completed contact tracing and has contacted everyone in close contact with the person that tested positive. If you have not been contacted, you or your child was not in close contact and need not quarantine. If you or your child show symptoms of the virus, you should contact your health care provider. If you have questions, call the Milam County Health Department.

Milam County Deputy Sheriff Randy Rodriquez shared his COVID-19 story on the radio Wednesday morning.

"Randy has a great story to tell and one you will want to listen to," Young said.
