Flemings top ranked

Lady Yoe Cross Country’s Yierra Flemings is looking for a big year in 2020.

The freshman is currently ranked first in Texas and so far has proven her ranking by placing first in the last four races she has run, with a second place finish to a runner from a bigger school classification this past weekend.

Flemings said she became interested in cross country after beginning running in junior high. She runs hurdles for the Lady Yoe Track team and has been training with her brother in distance running.

She said she is very excited about being ranked so high.

Flemings begins training at 6:30 a.m. every morning during the week.

Her goal for the year is to try to do her best and she hopes to be participating in the state meet this fall.

She is also involved in several other sports for the Lady Yoe.

Coach Dale Keen said Flemings is one of the most talented distance runners he has seen at Yoe in his 40+ years of coaching and he looks for great things from her.

The Yoe Cross Country teams each placed third in the Jarrell Mesquite Meet on Oct. 10.
