Lady Yoe soccer drops one to Lorena

The Cameron Lady Yoe soccer team was shut out on Tuesday against the Lorena Lady Leopards 5-0.

Cameron avoided a near scare in the first two minutes of the game with a kick that hit the top of the goal post. The Lady Yoe’s early luck would run out a minute later. Lorena kept up the pressure and scored an early goal in the third minute. After that, there was a goalie change for Cameron. Sky Morningstar (99) came in for Savannah Nejtek (35).

Lorena’s intensity and aggressiveness did not stop there. The Lady Leopards gave up a second goal in the 30th minute in the 40-minute half. The Lady Yoe stopped a close corner kick by the Lady Leopards with 23 minutes left but it could not stop the Lady Leopards momentum. The Lady Yoe gave up a corner kick with nine minutes left in the half, followed by another goal given up in third minute before halftime. One big problem for Cameron was that they were not able to get one single shot on goal as they were in defensive mode for the majority of the half. The Lady Yoe went into halftime down 4-0.

“Lorena is a good, competitive team,” Coach Laura Dickson said. “They were very strong and we found ourselves playing defense most of the game. They possessed the ball most of the time and so it was hard to get anything going offensively.”

To start the second half, Nejtek returned back to the goalie position. She showed more aggression in the second half and made some tough saves early in the half. Cameron eventually started to put some pressure on Lorena early in the half as they showed more offensive aggression.

“At halftime we discussed that we needed to change our effort and communication,” Dickson said. “The girls really took that to heart and went out and played a much better game the second half.”

Even though they started to put some pressure on Lorena and pick up the intensity throughout the half, they were unable to put up many shots on goal or have many chances for free and corner kicks.

Nejtek and the Lady Yoe gave up the only goal of the half with 18 minutes left in the game. Cameron ended up taking the defeat 5-0. To their credit, it was a much better and stronger effort in the second half, unfortunately the Lady Yoe fell short.

Their next scheduled game will be on Tuesday, Feb. 9, against the Caldwell Lady Hornets. That will be a home game for the Lady Yoe and it will be at 7:15 p.m.
