Lady Yoe soccer dominates Caldwell in big district win

The Cameron Lady Yoe soccer team defeated the Caldwell Lady Hornets on Tuesday in dominating fashion 4-1.

The Lady Yoe goalie, Savannah Nejtek (35) faced early pressure, but she and the defense held strong. Brandi Drake (1) had a fast break chance but missed at the thirteenth minute. She kept at it and had another chance at 15th minute but missed that opportunity as well. Jule Preiser (21) scored in exciting fashion at the 19th minute by launching a shot on goal from past the 20-yard line.

“Jule’s been working this week on taking some shots from out deep and you could tell tonight that she wanted it,” Coach Laura Dickson said. “She’s worked on chipping that ball up over and it just went right over the keeper and the keeper wasn’t able to play it and it went in.”

Drake had another chance but missed at the 20th minute, and just missed another opportunity at the 21st minute, that particular miss led to a foul on the Caldwell. This led to a penalty kick opportunity. Preiser took the shot and was successful to make the lead 2-0.

“She’s (Jule) my go to for PKs, so when we got that penalty in the box, I had her,” Dickson said.

The Lady Yoe had another chance to increase the lead at the 26th minute. They kept pushing the offensive tempo and attempted another opportunity in the 33rd minute that was unsuccessful. Cameron led at halftime 2-0.

After so many close misses in the first half, Drake finally scored early for Cameron in the 44th minute, followed by another goal by Drake at the 58th minute. This gave Cameron an insurmountable lead of 4-0.

“Brandi worked so hard the first half trying to get a goal,” Dickson said. “She took several shots on goal and just couldn’t get it to fall, but the second half she was relentless. Her perseverance through shot after shot after shot that either went to the keeper or went just wide. She was able to monopolize on her attempts and put a couple in.”

Cameron still continued to keep up their offensive intensity. The Lady Yoe had another chance at the 69th minute but missed that shot wide. Caldwell had their best opportunity to score with a free kick that was closer than a penalty kick and was successful at the 72nd minute as Caldwell scored their first and only goal of the game. Cameron would get the victory 4-1. Their next game will be tomorrow against the Smithville Lady Tigers. Dickson believes the key to the team playing successful is keeping the same mentality against Smithville.

“We still need to continue to work on working as a team, and making good passes, and good decisions with the ball, and play with total effort.” Dickson said. Friday’s game will be a home game and it will start at 6 p.m.
