Jessie Laura (Harber) Simmons

Jessie Laura (Harber) Simmons, formally of Cameron, went to her heavenly home Saturday morning, March 13, 2021, at the age of 99. 

Visitation will be 1- 2 p.m., Saturday, March 20, 2021, in the Chapel of Marek Burns Laywell Funeral Home, 2800 N. Travis Ave, Cameron, Texas 76520.  

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2021, in the Chapel with Rev. Aaron Haveron officiating.  Interment will immediately follow in Pebble Grove Cemetery in Maysfield.

Jessie was born April 14, 1921, the daughter of the late James Franklin and Pricie Palestine (Holloway) Harber in Jones Prairie, Milam County, Texas. She had two sisters and five brothers, all preceding her in death.

At age 17 she married Marvin Woodrow Simmons Sr. on Nov. 12, 1938, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1996. Also preceding her in death was her son, Marcus Alton Simmons.

Mom loved her flowers, sewing, quilting, playing dominoes, bowling, and all card games.  She loved cooking for all her neighbors and pet sitting their dogs and cats. She was great at building sheds, doll houses and other things a hobby she learned from her brothers growing up. Mom was Southern Baptist and a member of Battetown Baptist Church while she lived in Cameron.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha Larned and Marlene Stephenson and husband Oscar; three sons, Marvin Simmons Jr. and wife Linda, Marshall Simmons and Martin Simmons; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

The family extends their special thanks and appreciation to the Applegate Home and Hospice Care, St. George, Utah, Five County Assoc., St. George, Utah, and Beehive Homes of Coral Canyon, Washington, Utah, for their excellent loving care of our Mother.
