Yoemen set for district play after loss to Lake Belton

The Cameron Yoemen football team fell to the Lake Belton Broncos 28-14 on Friday. The Broncos got on the scoreboard first with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter. The Yoemen looked poised to put up points on their opening drive, but the Broncos sat back in coverage, and intercepted Ryan Muniz’s (7) pass near the Broncos 3-yard line.

Lake Belton took over from there and moved the ball up the field. They found themselves in the red zone and ran 15 yards to the end zone for a 14-0 lead with eleven minutes left of the second quarter. Later in the game, the Broncos took over with a little over three minutes to go in the second quarter and moved up to the Yoemen 33-yard line for one last play with 5 seconds remaining. The play went a little crazy as the quarterback scrambled and the play resulted in a fumble that was caused by Charlie Mayer (22) and scooped up by Fabian Salomon (35), who appeared to be headed for a touchdown. Unfortunately, he was chased down at the 6-yard line with no time left, as the score would stay 14-0 at halftime.

Cameron cut the deficit to 14-7 on its first possession after halftime on a 16-yard touchdown run by Phaibian Bynaum (5). The Broncos would then march into Yoemen territory and would score on a 2-yard touchdown to give Lake Belton a 21-7 advantage. Bynaum brought the Yoemen to within seven points with a 21-yard run to the end zone to make the score 21-14. However, Lake Belton would answer back with a touchdown on a 64-yard pass with just over nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter for a 28-14 lead and would hold on to win the game and keeping Cameron winless with a record of 0-4.

Ryan Muniz recorded 154 passing yards along with the one interception and also ran for 80 yards. Kason Goolsby (3) had 80 receiving yards on nine receptions, and Phaibian Bynaum rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Landen Greene played well recording eleven tackles, Fabian Salomon had 15 tackles along with a tackle for loss, a sack, and the recovered fumble.

Cameron’s next game will be tomorrow on the road against the Caldwell Hornets for their all-important district opener. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
