“In doubles, we came out with the upper hand by winning 4 out of 7 doubles matches,” said Coach Sarah Warner. “I was concerned about how we’d do in singles since so many of our doubles matches split sets and went to super tie break. All but one boys’ singles split sets, so those matches could have easily gone either way but our boys fought hard for the wins. In the end, the girls’ singles dominated. None of the matches split sets and that allowed us to reach the minimum of 10 matches to win overall.”
Cameron Yoemen defeated Caldwell 11-8 to seal the district championship.
“Winning district feels unreal,” said Warner. “I went back through the past three years and realized how we’ve performed better each year. In 2019, we got third place in district. In 2020, we placed second in district. This year, we placed 1st. This has been a great year with a great team and I really look forward to playoffs.”
Then on Sept. 16, Cameron had a successful Tri-match against Copperas Cove and Belton.
Warner feels her team is definitely running on strong confidence at this point in the season, and that the students are excited by their success and want to keep pushing hard to see how far they can go. They certainly showed that confidence in this tri-match in Copperas Cove.
