JUDGE: Milam County news and updates
Infusion Center
Our COVID-19 infusion center is open at the former Rockdale Hospital in Suite C. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
An infected person may get an infusion and the medical providers at the clinic can even assist with a prescription for the infusion. Monoclonal antibody infusions have proven to be 70 percent effective to prevent an infected person from being hospitalized, if the infusion is given within four to five days of infection.
There is no charge and this is available for those in Milam County and surrounding counties.
Interstate 14
With the passage of the bi-partisan infrastructure bill, I-14 will now be a federally-funded project. In the past, the project was funded in a piecemeal fashion.
The new bill provides millions for the project, which will basically follow highway 190 from the Bell County line through the county. However, the exact route has not yet been chosen.
Milam County has a seat at the table and will continue to have a presence in these discussions. The new interstate will connect several military bases including Ft. Bliss, Ft. Hood, Ft. Polk and many others. It will undoubtedly provide an economic boost to Milam County.
We do not know when work will begin here in Milam County, but the funding will speed up the project.
AMR
We have been working with AMR to improve ambulance service in the County. One of the issues is not knowing when an ambulance has actually been dispatched or when it will arrive.
AMR has new web based tracking software that will be made available to Milam County in the very near future that will allow dispatchers and others to track the ambulances in real time. This will be a major help to everyone involved, especially our first responders. Our first demonstration of the new software will be on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021.
Renovation in Downtown
Cameron
Renovation has begun on one of the buildings vacated by the county. Work has begun on the former JC Penny building, which housed MHMR for many years.
The plan is to restore the building to its original condition and rent the building for businesses and living quarters. So far the rear of the building has been taken back to the original brick and beaded ceilings.
We hope this will be the first of many buildings that will be restored in the renovation process of beautiful downtown Cameron.
