Black History Program set for Saturday

On Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. on the Historic O.J. Thomas School Campus, 1400 W. 6th Street in Cameron, the O. J. Thomas Alumni Association will host a Black History Program. The Program will serve as a scholarship fundraiser.

Special Music will be provided by The Gospel Starz of Austin, Texas. The Featured Speaker is Kevin Hoffman, Chief of Staff at Prairie View A&M University. Special Recognition will be given to noted individuals, and a Fruit and Dessert reception will conclude the program activities.

The Public is invited to attend.

Featured speaker will be Kevin Hoffman, the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President at Prairie View A&M University. 

He oversees the President’s Office day to day operations, the university’s strategic plan and the President’s Office budget.

Formally, Hoffman’s served as the Executive Director of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation, which oversees operations of NRG Park. He was a member of the Houston 2017 Super Bowl Bid Committee and the Houston 2016 NCAA Final Four Host Committee.

As an elected official, Hoffman served on the Board of Education of the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District from 2012-2016 and served on the Houston Independent School District Board of Education from 1999 until 2007. In 2003, Hoffman was the President of the Houston ISD Board of Trustees.

He has been involved with community-based and educational programs in the Houston area for over 30 years. The City of Houston, Harris County, the State of Texas, the United States Congress, and the United States Department of Education have recognized him for his public service in Education. He is a recipient of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Trail Blazer award, the Texas Association of School Board Leadership Award and the Prairie View A&M University Presidents View and Vision award.

Hoffman received his undergraduate and master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University in 1989 and 1992. A lifetime member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, he and his wife Angela have been married for 28 years and have two adult children.
