Yoe wrestlers headed for regionals
The Cameron Yoemen wrestling team competed at their district meet on Wednesday Feb. 2 at Georgetown East View High School.
The Yoemen have three wrestlers that will advance to the regional wrestling meet: Brady Havens, Joshua Jochec, and Jordan Wells.
Brady Havens competed in the 138-pound class. He wrestled outstanding as he ended the district meet placing second. Coach Dale Kean feels he has really upped his game.
“Brady just followed good wrestling dictates,” Keen said. “Just good base wrestling. One can’t help but recognize his determination and toughness also.”
Joshua Jochec ended placing fourth in the 120-pound class.
“Joshua like Brady very seldom miss practice and have bought into our philosophy of coaching,” Keen said. “They are coachable and we just keep adding to their knowledge. Wrestling can be brutal on beginners but if they can learn things eventually start changing for them.”
Jordan Wells placed fourth in the 160-pound class. He was doing well and was leading 14-0 in his second match but due to some errors, he ended up on his back and got pinned with just 40 seconds left in match.
Even with that defeat, he found made his way into the consolation bracket and he had trouble regrouping after that loss.
He will be joining Havens and Jochec at regionals and will start with a clean slate there.
“I think they have to keep doing what has worked for them so far,” Keen said. “We can’t change what works or us. The ability to stay focused is key and in Jordan’s case he must follow through on the original goal to wrestle well and try to qualify for state.”
The regional wrestling meet will take place on Feb. 11 and will be hosted at Anna High School.
