City moving forward with manager search

The City of Cameron took steps toward hiring a new city manager during a meeting on Monday.

Council directed Mayor Bill Harris to negotiate with their final candidate for city manager after executive session on Monday.

The City has gone nearly a year without a permanent city manager since the resignation of Parker last July. Harris has been working as interim city manager until a permanent replacement is found.

The council also agreed to put $5,000 towards an initiative that will put Christmas lights and decorations in downtown Cameron for the holiday season.

Cameron Industrial Foundation Executive Director Ginger Watkins was on hand to present to the council plans to decorate downtown Cameron for the holiday season.

Watkins said the CIF is working to put lights on the downtown square rooflines and wrap trees in the downtown mall along with decorations at the entrances areas to downtown.

She said an anonymous donor will match any funds raised for the project.

Watkins said this will be the first step in making downtown Cameron a destination for holiday events like the Cameron Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade and other events the Chamber is planning for the coming holiday season.

In other business the council also: approved a special use permit for a mini salon at 710 North Central; and approved a special use permit for chickens at 1100 North Jackson.
