Lady Yoe softball falls to Franklin in bi-district series

The Cameron Lady Yoe softball team competed in the bi-district round of the playoffs against the Franklin Lady Lions, both games were played at Franklin. The Lady Yoe would be swept in the series 2-0 to bring their season to an end. It was a tough day on Wednesday for the Lady Yoe, as they were shut out by Franklin 9-0. The game was scoreless going into the third inning when Cameron gave up a run on a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 deficit. 

The Lady Lions added on with two more runs in the fourth inning with two singles to make the score 3-0. Franklin sealed the game with two more runs in the sixth inning and another four in the seventh inning for a 9-0 game. The Lady Yoe offense was stymied, as a double by Brooklyn McCall in the third inning was the lone hit for Cameron. Mia Wimmer took the loss on the mound for the Lady Yoe. Wimmer went seven innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits.

Cameron tried to redeem themselves on Thursday, but was defeated 12-2 in a game that ended in five innings due to the 10 run rule. Cameron watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in the loss. Franklin took the lead 1-0 on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, then score another run on a single in the second inning. Franklin scored six runs in the third inning. Franklin big bats were led by a single, a double, a sacrifice fly, and two runs off of errors committed by Cameron.

The Lady Lions added two more runs to their lead in the fourth inning with two more runs off of a double and a single. The Lady Yoe tried to extend the game with two runs in the two runs in the top of the fifth inning with two singles, one from Mia Wimmer and the other from Ka’Sara Brooks to make the score 10-2. Unfortunately, it would not be enough to give them more innings of play as the Lady Lions answered with two runs of their own to finish the game in five innings. 

Despite the loss, Cameron still managed to collect eight hits in the game. Ka’Sara Brooks led the Lady Yoe with two hits in three at bats. Navaeh Billingsley started the game for Cameron. The righty allowed six hits and six runs over two innings, walking one. Sam Frausto pitched two innings in relief and allowed five runs on four hits, four of the runs were earned runs. Mia Wimmer took the loss on the mound for the Lady Yoe. Wimmer surrendered one run on zero hits over one-third of an inning.
