Cameron ISD voters approve $15.9 million bond issue

The Cameron ISD Board of Trustees certified the election to approve a bond on Monday to build new Career and Technology and Ag facilities in the district. The bond passed by a vote of 484-483.

Voters approved the district’s $15.9 million bond election.

“Thank you, Cameron ISD voters for your tremendous support of the school district and our students,” Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles said. “This is a community that values education and is willing to invest in our children. We are excited about the positive impact this will have on our students, staff and community for years to come. We look forward to providing a world- class 21st Century, immersive learning environment for our students. Thank you to everyone who voted and participated in the election process and thank you to the Cameron ISD Board of Trustees for providing leadership and direction to ensure our district effectively serves our students now and in the future.”

The approved bond funds will be used to renovate and repurpose the Original C.H. Yoe High School Building to create a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center. This center will provide Cameron ISD students with opportunities to obtain hands-on, relevant skills and certifications in programs that will help prepare them for their futures, whether that future starts with college or immediately entering the workforce.

In addition to renovating the Original C.H. Yoe High School Building, bond funds will also be used to improve our existing Ag Facilities to enhance the Welding, Floral Lab, and Veterinarian Tech programs. More information about the project can be found on the district’s bond website at www.cameronisd.net.

The estimated maximum tax impact of the total bond proposal is anticipated to be $0.025 or 2.5 cents, which equates to an increase of $18.75 per year or $1.56 per month on a home valued at $115,000, which is the average home value in Cameron Independent School District. Cameron ISD property taxes for citizens age 65 or older will not be affected by the bond election as long as an over-65 homestead exemption has been filed with the Milam County Appraisal District.

Sprinkles said that throughout the process, Cameron ISD will remain committed to keeping the community informed of the progress, allocation of funds, and major design and construction milestones.
