Eleanor Schmidt Hollas

Eleanor Schmidt Hollas passed away peacefully on May 22, 2022, at the age of 93. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022, at St. Monica Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in the St. Monica Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday, May 27, from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m.

She was born Feb. 24, 1929, in Palestine to Victor and Ella (Stehr) Schmidt. Her family moved to Cameron in 1946 when her dad was the engineer on Little River Bridge. She met George Hollas in high school and they married in 1950.

She was involved in various organizations in Cameron, including Arts & Services, Girl and Boy Scouts, St. Monica’s Catholic Church and the Garden Club. She was an avid cook and baker and made wedding cakes and countless cross stitch announcements and ornaments for friends and family.  

She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, George Hollas; daughters, Patricia Phipps and husband Rollin and Judy Cummings; and son, Rick Hollas and wife Denise; grandchildren, Scott Cummings (Amy), Teri Vaculin (Brad), Jessica Smith (Brian) and Jennifer Berry (Shane); step-grandchildren, Collin Retzlaff and Brittany (Eric) Vasquez; great-grandchildren, Tessa, Jett and Callen Vaculin, Kylie and Holden Berry, Robby Smith, and TK, Ellie and Finley Cummings.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron is in charge of arrangements.
