Two in custody following weekend shooting in Milano

Two Milano men are in custody following a weekend shooting.

According to Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore, on Saturday, Sept. 10, at approximately 1:45 a.m. the Milam County Sheriff’s Office received calls of gunshots in the area of Avenue A and 4th Street in Milano. Kelly Joe Cain of Milano was wounded by gunfire. Dillon Ray Little, of Milano, was the shooter.  

Cain was transported to a nearby hospital while Little was detained.  

Clore said that on this early morning, Cain drove by Little’s house several times on his motorcycle, carrying an AK47 strapped to his torso while wearing a clown mask. Little went outside to confront Cain, boarding his vehicle and approaching Cain.  

The two men collided and engaged in a gunfight. The exchange of gunfire happened in a residential area within yards of the Milano Elementary School. The two men showed no regard for the safety of the community in which they both reside.

Cain received wounds from gunfire but were non-life threatening. Cain, after having fired several rounds from his AK47, ran on foot. Without regard for community safety, he placed his AK47 under a house (located by MCSO), went next door to a neighbor’s house, dropped the clown mask and contacted a resident, who then phoned MCSO.

Cain then left, went to the Milano AMR hub, and was transported to St. Joe’s in Caldwell treated and then released.  The shooting is believed to be the result of an ongoing feud between the two men. 

Milam County Investigators collected evidence and witness statements at the scene.  They were in touch with the Milam County District Attorney’s Office during the investigation.  

It was determined to charge both individuals: Dillon Ray Little – Aggravated Assault Causes Serious Bodily Injury – Second Degree Felony; and Kelly Joe Cain – Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Second Degree Felony.

Both men have been arrested, are in custody and awaiting magistration.

The investigation is ongoing.
