Lady Yoe get two big district sweeps
The Lady Yoe volleyball team got two big wins to open district play at 2-0 last week.
The ladies began district play on the road on Friday against the Rockdale Lady Tigers. The Lady Yoe swept Rockdale 3-0, winning the first set 27-25, the second set 25-22, and the third set 25-23.
Haley Tucker had a strong performance and recorded nine kills, five digs, and a block. Sydni Smith also had a strong performance and had three kills, four blocks, and an ace. Kaley White played amazing with two kills, seven digs, and 32 assists. Ainsley Driska was incredible with seven aces, a block, and 20 kills.
Cameron played their district home opener on Tuesday against the Troy Trojanettes. The Lady Yoe swept Troy 3-0.
The first two points of the first set went to Cameron. That was soon followed with a kill and then an ace by Haley Tucker (6) for a 4-1 lead. The Lady Yoe lead grew to 8-5, then a kill by Tucker later increased the lead to 11-7.
Cameron played excellent defense following a combined block from Sydni Smith (1) and Lauren Harris (9) for a 12-8 lead. Cameron stayed in control with a tip over kill by Ainsley Driska (4) to make it a 16-10 lead, which was followed by two straight aces from Tucker to make the lead 18-10. The Lady Yoe kept up the momentum with a kill by Driska for a 20-13 lead, and extended it to 22-15. Cameron would get a block by Tucker for a 24-17 lead, and they would win the first set 25-19.
The first two points of the second set went to Troy. The Lady Yoe came back and tied the set up at 3 on a kill by Driska. They later took the lead 6-5 with a spike by Tucker. The set stayed even until a nice kill by Smith put the Lady Yoe up 13-10 over Troy. The two teams continued to battle but a tip over shot from Kaley White (3) gave Cameron a 14-13 lead, and the lead soon became 20-17 with an ace on the serve by Lindsay Talafuse (7). Troy came marching back and the score became 21-20 Cameron. The Lady Yoe slowed the Trojanettes momentum with a clutch kill by Tucker to make it a 22-20 lead. Troy tied the set at 22, but Cameron found a way to pull through and score three straight points to secure the second set 25-22.
The first point of the third set went to Troy. The set did not start off well as Cameron fell behind 4-1, then 7-3. However, the Lady Yoe kept fighting and brought their deficit down to 8-7 with an ace from Talafuse. Cameron took the lead 9-8 on two kills from Tucker, but Troy came back to score three points and go ahead 11-9.
The Lady Yoe tied the set back at 13 with a monster block by Smith. Cameron would get an ace from Tucker for a 15-13 lead and would increase it to 18-13. That was soon followed with an incredible kill by Driska for a 20-16 lead. Troy would try to mount a comeback but Cameron held on strong in the end to win the third set 25-23 to complete the sweep.
Up next for the Lady Yoe will be a trip to Rogers to take on the Lady Eagles on Friday. The game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
