Historical Marker Dedication

The Texas Historical Commission recognized the Lawrence-Hubert House in Cameron a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, which designates the home as an important and educational part of local history during a ceremony on Sept. 7. The house is currently the Central Avenue Bistro. Bistro owners Marilyn Willie and Spring Janke worked to restore the home to house their restaurant. The home was built by C.W. Lawrence and his wife Mary in 1901. The house would later be sold to Dr. J.S. Hubert and his wife Edith who operated a kindergarten in the home until 1978. The home was restored to its grand state in 2017 by Willie and Janke. They are pictured along with Spring’s daughter Vivian with the new historical marker.
