Yoemen get two big district wins to move to 4-1

The Cameron Yoemen traveled on Friday to take on the Lexington Eagles. Cameron was victorious, winning 11-8. 

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then Cameron jumped out ahead in the second inning and took a 7-1 lead. The scoring in the second inning started when Mason Kuzel singled on the first pitch of the at bat, bringing in the first run. A Lexington fielding error scored two runs for Cameron on a bunt single by Kason Goolsby, Braylan Drake singled on a bunt attempt of his own, scoring one run, Ryan Host hit an RBI ground out, Landen Greene hit an infield single, and Armando Reyes finished the explosive inning with a double on a line drive to right field.

Cameron added to their lead with four more runs in the fourth inning aided by more Lexington errors. Marino Cardona scored the first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly, Kason Goolsby drove in a run on a hard ground ball single to right field, and the other two runs came in due to fielding errors by the Eagles. Lexington tried to complete a magical comeback, scoring five runs with two outs in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as Cameron held strong to win 11-8. The Yoemen totaled 12 hits in the game. Marino Cardona led the team with three hits in four at bats.

Braylan Drake earned the victory on the mound for Cameron. The righty allowed one hit and three runs over three and a third innings, striking out one. Yovanni Cerros and Kaden Kuzel entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. The two relievers combined for five runs, all unearned, on three hits, and five strikeouts. 

The Yoemen hosted the McGregor Bulldogs on Tuesday. The Yoemen obliterated the Bulldogs 15-0 in four innings due to the 10 run rule. 

Cameron opened up the scoring in the first inning. The Yoemen scored one run when Marino Cardona singled on a hard ground ball to center field, driving in the run. Cameron exploded in the fourth inning with a whopping 12 runs to activate the 10 run rule. The offensive onslaught by Cameron was led by Marino Cardona, Armando Reyes, Zay Gillmon, Braylan Drake, Ryan Host, and Landen Greene, who each had RBIs in the inning.

The Yoemen collected nine hits on the day. Braylan Drake, Marino Cardona, and Landen Greene each racked up multiple hits for Cameron. The Yoemen defense was also solid and didn’t commit a single error in the field. Landen Greene earned the win on the mound for Cameron. He lasted five innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking one. 

With this victory, Cameron is in a two way tie for first place in district with a district record of 4-1. 

Up next for the Yoemen will be a home game against the Rockdale Tigers. The game will be on Friday and first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
