Sheriff addresses unfounded threats to CISD

On March 31, the Milam County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Cameron Junior High based on a report involving an online post using threatening language.

Sheriff Mike Clore said this appears to have originated from a report, earlier this morning, involving a school in Falls County.

“Upon arrival, Milam County personnel worked with our school resource deputies as well as school staff to investigate the post to ensure the safety and security of everyone at the school,” Clore said.

During this event and interviews of the students involved, it was found that the school threat was without merit and the act of a few, spreading gossip via social media, manufacturing a false narrative causing a combined law enforcement response to the school.

CISD Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles said that due to the fact that Cameron ISD considers the health and safety of students and staff its top priority Cameron Junior High and Cameron Elementary were placed on a brief soft lockdown while school officials and law enforcement investigated he threat.

Clore said that during this incident, students also began referencing Rockdale ISD in their texts and posts.  Rockdale Police were notified of the posts involving Rockdale ISD, which was also found not to be credible.

“We thank the Texas Department of Public Safety and other partners for their response,” he said.

Sprinkles applauded the efforts of campus administration, Milam County Sheriff’s Office and the DPS for their swift action.
