Cameron Police Officer, suspect dead after shootout (Updated 5-12-23 with names of deceased)
The identity of a Cameron Police Officer killed in a shootout yesterday has been released.
Sgt. Josh Clouse died of wounds sustained on Thursday.
There is a patrol unit parked in front of the Cameron Police Department at 605 West Fourth street with a wreath placed on it to honor Sgt. Clouse. Residents are invited to stop by.

The shooter in the incident has also been identified as 29-year-old Albert Rafael Acosta. He is also deceased.

A Cameron Police Officer and a suspect are dead this morning after a shootout in Cameron last night.
Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore said that at approximately 10:55 p.m. on May 10 Cameron PD responded to the 700 block of North Travis in Cameron on a report of a gunshot victim.
The victim advised CPD that the victim was shot in the back of the neck by the victim’s spouse. Cameron PD investigated and subsequently applied for a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of E. 7th.
Cameron PD, Milam County SO, Rockdale PD and TX DPS attempted warrant service at the suspect residence.
The suspect opened fire on law enforcement personnel, at which time, law enforcement fired back. The suspect was mortally wounded and one Cameron officer was wounded.
The Cameron officer was transported by AMR to the nearest ER, where the officer succumbed to wounds inflicted by the suspect. There is no immediate danger to the public at this time.
Milam County SO requested that the Texas Rangers investigate this incident.
