Fire burns acreage near Buckholts
Multiple fire departments saved a home after a burn ban violation turned into a grass fire on Aug. 31.
Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department and Holland Volunteer Fire Department responded about 4:45 p.m. on Thursday for reports of a grass fire approaching a house and barn on CR 401 near the Milam-Bell County line.
Buckholts VFD Chief Robert Rodriguez said Holland crews arrived first on scene and found a fast moving fire nearing an RV, a barn, and a home.
Rogers Volunteer Fire Department responded for mutual aid with a tanker and the three departments were able to contain the fire and save the barn, home, and RV.
The blaze consumed about seven or eight acres in total. There were no injuries.
Davilla VFD also ended up responding to assist.
Crews spent nearly two hours on site.
Rodriguez said it appears the resident was burning trash despite the ongoing burn ban, which likely caused the fire.
A fire Wednesday, Aug. 30 burned about 10 acres in the Rogers area. That fire also destroyed several tires and old pieces of farm equipment. Crews were able to save the home there as well.
Little River Academy and Cameron VFDs also responded.
