Early voting continues for ESD, amendments

Voting continues in the November Constitutional Amendment election and the Emergency Services District  election in Milam County.

As of Tuesday 230 ballots had been cast in the election in Milam County.

Early voting will take place at the Milam County Clerk’s Office through Oct. 27 and Oct.  30 and Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 and Nov. 2 and 3.

Early voting at the Buckholts Community Center, the Patterson Center, and Thorndale Veterans Memorial Hall will take place Oct. 26-27, Oct. 30-31, and Nov. 1 and 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. It will also be held Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Voters can cast a ballot from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 7, at Cameron Housing Authority, the Buckholts Community Center, Patterson Center in Rockdale, Thorndale Veterans Memorial Hall, Milano VFD, Gause VFD, and Family Life Center in Cameron.

There are still two Town Hall meetings about the Emergency Services District in the county. There will be one on Oct. 26 at Gause First Baptist Church and one on Nov. 3 at Buckholts Outreach Center. The community is invited to learn more about the ESD.

The ESD will have the ability to fund EMS in Milam County. The ESD generates funds from ad valorem tax revenue. The proposed rate will be 5 cents per $100 valuation.

The ESD’s goals will be to decrease the amount of times the county’s EMS is at level zero by providing additional ALS ambulance service; get an additional ambulance; construct a new station in Milano; own all of its own EMS structure including stations, trucks and equipment; pay for medica and construction of new stations in Cameron, Rockdale and Thorndale.
