Filing open for city council, school board

Several seats will be open on Cameron City Council and CISD School Board for the May election.

Both entities called for a May election during meetings in January.

Filing began Jan. 17 and will run through Feb. 16 for both.

The Cameron City Council places up for election will be Ward 2, Ward 4 and Mayor. Ward 2 is currently held by Nathan Fuchs and Ward 4 is currently held by Jimmy Pratt.

Fuchs has filed to run for mayor as incumbent Bill Harris will not seek re-election.

There will also be a special election to fill Ward 1 after Maurice Goza vacated the offie late in 2023 after moving out of the jurisdiction. There is currently no one serving in that position.

On the Cameron ISD School Board of Trustees three at-large positions will be on the ballot.

Incumbent board members in those positions are Franci Denio, Annisha Williams and Michael McAnulty.

You can file for City Council at City Hall, 100 S. Houston in Cameron from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can file for CISD School Board Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the CISD Administration Building 304 East 12th Street in Cameron.
