Bulldogs easily defeat Granger, Rosebud-Lott
The Thorndale Bulldogs baseball team traveled to take on the Granger Lions on Friday, March 22. Thorndae shutout Granger, winning 16-0 in five innings and in a game where they scored in every inning.
The Bulldogs jumped on Granger early in the top of the first inning with four runs and never looked back. Nate Grimm and Kade Becker were both hit by a pitch with bases loaded, bringing in two runs, Jaxon Eschberger had a bases loaded walk, and Rowdy Casner hit an RBI fielders choice groundout.
The Bulldogs tallied 11 total hits in the game. Gunner Ferguson and Kaden Kovar each collected three hits for Thorndale, and Kovar and Casner each drove in three runs. The Bulldogs had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Thorndale also ran well on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game. The Bulldogs was sure-handed on the field and didn’t commit a single error. Lance Pesl earned the win on the hill for Thorndale. He surrendered two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking two.
The Bulldogs hosted the Rosebud-Lott Cougars the next day. The Bulldogs defeated Rosebud-Lott, winning 3-1.
The Bulldogs traveled to take on the Holland Hornets on Tuesday March 26. Thorndale came out on top, beating Holland 9-8. Thorndale started the scoring in the top of the second inning with two runs. Kade Becker singled, and Rowdy Casner hit an RBI fielders choice ground out, each scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Holland responded with three runs to lead 3-2. The Bulldogs answered back in the top of the fifth inning, scoring five runs to take a 7-3 lead and never gave the lead back. Nate Grimm, Kade Becker, Jaxon Eschberger, and Rowdy Casner all contributed with big hits in the inning. Holland tried to rally back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was not enough and Thorndale held strong to win 9-8.
The Bulldogs collected 10 hits in the game. Nathan Grimm led the team with three runs batted in. Grimm, Becker, and Kaden Kovar each collected two hits for the Bulldogs.Jaxon Eschberger earned the win on the hill for Thorndale. The lefty surrendered four hits and four runs (one earned) over six innings, walking 3 and collected a whopping 14 strikeouts. Kade Becker earned the save on the mound. He allowed one run on no hits with no walks and two strikeouts in one inning.
With this victory, the Bulldogs have an overall record of 16-1-1 and a district record of 6-1. Next up for Thorndale, they will return home to host the Bremond Tigers. The game will be Thursday, March 28, and is set for 7 p.m.
