Officers respond to shooting in Cameron

Milam County deputies responded to assist the Cameron Police Department with a Thursday shooting.

Cameron Police responded to a report of shots fired about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Cameron Associate Apartments in the 1700 block of West 4th Street, across from Brookshire Brothers grocery.

Milam County deputies responded to assist and ultimately took over the investigation.

Responding units learned two victims had sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

A male suspect was located inside a nearby apartment and officers were able to talk the subject outside by telephone. That subject was then arrested and taken to Milam County Jail on two charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He is currently waiting to be magistrated at this time. The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Reginald England on Friday afternoon. He remains in custody.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden were on scene to assist with crowd control. Rockdale Police helped with crowd control and crime scene processing. This investigation continues.

Sheriff Mike Clore said there is no danger to the public.
