Yoemen fall to Maypearl on the road
The Cameron Yoemen traveled to take on the Maypearl Panthers on Sept. 13. Cameron was defeated by Maypearl, losing 41-24.
Maypearl started the scoring in the first quarter with a touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead.
The Yoemen responded with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Cade Hubnik to Elijah Goodrum to tie the score at 7. Maypearl retook the lead with a 49-yard touchdown run for a 14-7 lead, which would be the score at the end of the first quarter.
Maypearl dominated the second quarter, outscoring Cameron 13-3 to be ahead 27-10 at halftime. The lone highlight for the Yoemen was a 27-yard field goal by Homero Najera.
The Panthers scored the lone points in the third quarter with a 6-yard touchdown run to extend their lead to 34-10.
The Yoemen responded in the fourth quarter with 14 unanswered points to close the gap at 34-24. Those points were from a 33-yard catch by Antonio Vargas with a two point conversion and a 51-yard pass from Hubnik to Goodrum followed by a failed two point attempt.
Maypearl halted Camerons rally with a 21-yard touchdown run to make it a 41-24 lead, which would be the final score.
Cade Hubnik played a great game, throwing for 173 yards and three touchdowns along with rushing for 99 yards. Antonio Vargas was also productive, catching three passes for 40 yards and a touchdown.
Elijah Goodrum was fantastic, catching five passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns.
With this loss, Cameron now has a record of 0-3. Next up for the Yoemen will be a return home to host the Lorena Leopards. The game will be Friday, Sept. 20, and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
