Officers respond to shooter at Cameron apartments
Multiple agencies responded in reference to a shooting in Cameron this afternoon.
The Milam County Sheriff’s Office responded about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, to assist Cameron Police in reference to a report of shots fired at 9th and Polk in town.
Preliminary information from Cameron PD brought officers to the Cameron Associates Apartments across from Brookshire Brothers in Cameron where it was believed a suspect or suspects had fled and barricaded themselves.
Deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers all responded to that scene to secure it while Cameron PD sought a search warrant for the apartment in question. Upon setting up a perimeter, deputies attempted to contact the suspect.
While on scene, it was learned the suspect or suspects may still be in a vehicle and headed out of town. No suspects were located inside the apartment.
During the unfolding of this incident, a Code Red alert was sent out by the Emergency Management Coordinator’s Office indicating an active shooter was on the loose. This alert did not originate from the Sheriff’s Office and was put out without our input or knowledge. Any further information regarding this incident should be directed to Cameron Police.
