Jail welcomes new administrator

The Milam County Jail welcomed a new Jail Administrator last week. Byron Shelton was sworn in by Sheriff Mike Clore to begin his new role. Shelton was accompanied by his wife for the ceremony. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Milam County thanks to a long history of law enforcement and jailer experience. A US Army veteran, having seen combat in both Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, he then embarked on a law enforcement career, joining the Bell County Sheriff’s Office from 2001-2020. He then became a jail inspector with the Texas Jail Commission from 2020-2023 before returning to Bell County Jail from 2023 until taking the administrator position here. His role here will entail ensuring Milam County Jail continues to comply with state jail standards while supervising a staff of jailers and personnel.
