Billy Ed Simank

Billy Ed Simank was called home to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale with Pastor Aaron Kalbas officiating. Burial will follow immediately in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale from 6-8 p.m.

Billy Ed Simank was born on Nov. 18, 1938, in Granger, the son of Fred Laurence and Mabel Marie (Hirt) Simank. Billy retired from Alcoa’s Rockdale Power Plant formerly IGC as a Supervisor. He then attended Austin Community College to become a Real Estate Agent. He worked as a Real Estate Agent until he retired in 2015. Billy served as a member of the Thorndale City Council and proudly served as Mayor of Thorndale for 10 years. He was an Associate Member of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department. Billy served in the Army as a Sergeant E-5. He is a member of the American Legion Carlyle Post 358 in Rockdale. Billy passed peacefully, surrounded by family, at SPJST Memory Care in Taylor. Billy battled Dementia and Parkinson’s with his usual determination, strength, humor, and love of family and life.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Ray (Bobby) Simank; a son, Joel Warren Simank; and a great-grandson, Kase Carter Jones.

Billy is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rhonda Simank; seven children, Jeannie Hinds, John Simank and wife Kristy, Jennifer Simank, Jason Simank, Justin Simank and wife Naomi, Jill Eschberger and husband Todd, and Janeann Bland and husband Ashaley; three stepchildren, David Cooper, Jason Cooper and wife Lisa, Cathy Barnes and husband John; 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Alfred (Al) Simank and wife Kay; one sister, Cheryl Hall and husband Darren; mother-in-law, Linda Washington; brother-in-law, Doyle Smith and wife Lori; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 369, Thorndale 76577 or the charity of one’s choice.
