Billy Gene Whitaker

Billy Gene Whitaker, 87, of Cameron died Saturday, May 18, 2019, in a Cameron nursing facility.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Rice Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Whitaker, a farmer, was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Cameron to William and Gertrude Jessie (Henry) Whitaker. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War being stationed in Japan. All his life he loved growing crops of tomatoes and other vegetables. He loved the out of doors and fishing. He was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. 

He is survived by: sister, Diane Yates; nieces, Lynette Ohlson, Cindy Mendenhall, Bridget Pelzel, Gail Summers and Denise McQuary; nephews, Gary Kornegay and Jack Thompson; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Gertrude Whitaker; and two sisters, Juanita Landrum and Marie Thompson.

 Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.
