Madeline Beitel

Madeline Beitel, 90, joined her Lord & Savior peacefully passing away of natural causes in Cameron, having most recently resided in Milano.

She lived a life that professed her faith and was a true encourager. A lifelong Baptist, she was a long-time member of First Baptist Duncanville and at the time of her death was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist in Rockdale, where her service will be held. Burial will be at Mission Park South in San Antonio next to her husband and his parents.

Madeline was born in 1929 on a farm in the Melrose Community of Lockesburg, Ark., the first child of Osceola and Zaddie Latimer. Farm life in the Depression Era required Madeline and her siblings to work hard from an early age - a trait that stayed with her throughout her life.

In 1947 Madeline met and married Robert C. “Bob” Beitel, the love of her life, in San Antonio, where her daughter Sue (Marsh) and son Randy were born. In 1961 they relocated to Duncanville where her daughter Ginger (Green) and son Curtis were born and they resided there 44 years until relocating to Cypress in 2005 to live with Ginger due to Bob’s failing health.  After his passing in Nov 2006, Madeline moved with Ginger and Dennis to their ranch in Milano.

Madeline operated a day care in her home in San Antonio and worked in the Insurance industry, including McJunkin Insurance Agency in Duncanville.  She then joined Duncanville ISD as Teacher’s Aide at the High School and completed her career as Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools.  In retirement, she devoted most of her time to her lifelong hobby of vegetable gardening, of whom many enjoyed the fruits of her labor!

Preceding her in death were her husband of 59 years, Bob Beitel; as well as two grandsons, infant Joseph Beitel, and Chad Swenson; and a brother, Howard Latimer.

Madeline is survived by children, Sue Marsh of Houston, Randy Beitel of Seattle, Ginger Green (Dennis) of Milano, and Curtis Beitel (Leanne) of Fort Worth. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Lea Swenson Havens, Katherine Beitel and Ellie Beitel; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Havens and Avery Havens; her sister, Joann Tollett (James); brother, Robert Hal Latimer (Joyce); and sister-in-law Jane Latimer.

She was best known for her sweet demeanor, infectious smile, true joy and positive attitude towards life and will be missed by all who were blessed to have known and loved her.

Services were held Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale. Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 17, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Memorials can be made to Meadowbrook Baptist Church or Place of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center, 231 E. Cameron Ave, Rockdale, 76567.
