Michael Dean Young

Michael Dean Young, age 64 of Rockdale, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Waco.

 Mike was born Jan. 27, 1956, in Pasadena to Marvin Ray and Opal Mae (Mowdy) Young. He was a graduate of Cameron Yoe High School, and attended TSTI for one year to study auto mechanics. On May 14, 1977, he and Barbara Elaine Nolen were married in Rockdale. They are members of First Baptist Church in Rockdale. Mike most recently worked in the Alcoa pot rooms from 1990 until 2008.

Mike cherished the time in his life that he shared with his wife and "Sweetheart" Barbara. He enjoyed fishing, building and working on muscle cars, attending car shows, collecting Hot Wheels, and going to drag races at the Little River Dragway or the Texas Motorplex.

He loved to spend time at the beach with his family, and always enjoyed attending all of the events his grandchildren were involved in. He loved to ride around town with his granddog, Shiner. Mike got a kick out of giving his friends and family a hard time with some good-natured teasing. He always had the best stories to tell, and had a gift for making people laugh. He will be missed by many for his wittiness and kind heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Ray and Opal Mae Young and a sister, Opal Rae Young.

Surviving is his wife, Barbara Young of Rockdale; children, Michael Young II and wife Lani of Rockdale, Darla Tamez and husband Greg of Hutto, Chris Young and wife Meagan of Thorndale and Derek Young and wife Brittany of Rockdale; grandchildren, Gavin Young, Taytum Young, Camryn Tamez, Caydence Tamez, Scarlett Young and Dagen Young; a sister, Judy Kopriva and husband Jimmie of Cameron and a brother, Marvin Young and wife Regina of Cameron.

A memorial and celebration of life will be led by Barry Methvin on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 4 p.m. at the Patterson Civic Center in Rockdale.
