Richard (Ricardo) Munoz Vega Sr. 

Richard (Ricardo) Munoz Vega Sr. went to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021.  Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Hernandez Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church prior to the service.

Richard was born Feb. 28, 1947, in Burlington (Falls County) to Raynaldo and Jesusa Munoz Vega Sr. Mr. Vega was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. 

Richard married Mary Ann Galvan and from their marriage they were blessed with three children: daughters, Angela (Angie) Vega of Cameron and Sonia Vega-Perez; and son-in-law, Juan Carlos Perez of Cameron; and son, Richard Vega Jr. of Cameron.

Dad worked in many different workplaces and eventually enjoyed having his own business. Dad was own and operator of Vega’s Army Surplus Store in Cameron and Vega’s Liquor Store and Tire Shop in Rosebud. He had also worked in the cotton fields/ranch, Cameron Ford Shop, Jackson Mortuary and Santa Fe Railroad.

He enjoyed his puppies Chico and Gizmo and was always a pet lover. Dad enjoyed being with his family and friends, hauling junk, watching old western movies, listening to KMIL’s  Tejano Thursdays, KRXT Tejano Saturday’s, Polka Time and cooking for his family. He also enjoyed visiting the cemetery, gardening, and talking about the good ole days.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, SanJuana Munoz-Martinez and Sylvina Munoz-Valdez; and by six brothers, Joe Vega Sr., Ruben Vega Sr., Raynaldo Vega Jr., Arturo Vega Sr., Thomas Vega Sr. and Manuel Munoz; and sister-in-law, Patsy Vega. 

In addition to his children, he is survived by: brother, Robert Munoz Vega Sr. of Cameron; sisters, Enedina (Nene) Vega-Montez and husband Arthur of Cameron, and Maggie Gonzales and special friend Geronimo Nunez of Cameron; sisters-in-law, Sally Vega of Cameron and Mary Vega of Rockdale; six grandchildren, Erika Desirae Campos and husband Chris Lopez, Alfredo Sierra Jr., Gabriela Perez, Dulce Maria Perez, Carlos Alberto Perez and Juan Antonio Perez; great-grandchildren, John Ray Torres Jr., Genavieve Sierra, Selene Torres, Brooklyn Rayne Lopez, Carlee Raelyn Lopez, Destiny Sierra Lopez, Christopher Ray Lopez, Jr., Leonardo De La Garza, Penelope De La Garza, Xitlali Joleen Anaya, and Xiadani Martha Anaya; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
