Shelby Guinn Smith Jr.

Shelby Guinn Smith Jr., age 86 of Milano, passed away Tuesday morning, July 9, 2019, in the Renaissance Villa in Rockdale.

Funeral services for are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2019, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Gary Westbrook officiating. Burial will be in the Milano Cemetery in Milano. Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Shelby Guinn Smith Jr. was born in Rockdale on July 25, 1932, to Shelby William and Evelyn Cornelias (Dymke) Smith. He was a graduate of Rockdale High School, Blinn College, Texas A&M University and received his Master’s Degree from Southwest Texas in San Marcos. He taught Ag, math and coached at the Sharp ISD and Milano ISD. He retired in 1985, but never really retired.

Shelby was a member of Rockdale Christian Church, a member of Rockdale Masonic Lodge #414 AF&AM and a 3rd degree with Ben Hur in Austin.

On Feb. 9, 1952, he and Earnesteen Smith were married in Rockdale.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Sloan on Sept. 27, 1998; a brother, Jimmy Smith; and his parents.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Earnesteen Smith; daughters, Beverly Head and husband David and Bobbie Valle; sisters, Polly Beachem and husband Ralph and Jo Nell Quintin and husband Ron; grandchildren, Rebecca Bartoli, Jennifer Trevino, Tim Stewart III, Amber Maines, Adam Sloan, Miriam Collins, Miranda Collins, Benjamin Collins; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are, Kerry Schlemmer, Arvin Jones, Tim Stewart, Mark Talley, Terry Cunningham, Wesley Nelson.
