Bulldogs still undefeated in district play
The Thorndale Bulldogs keep rolling through district play with wins over Bartlett and Holland.
The basketball team traveled to take on the Bartlett Bulldogs on Jan. 5. Thorndale was victorious, destroying Bartlett 53-19.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs returned home to host the Holland Hornets. Thorndale defeated Holland 54-35.
The first quarter started even until Thorndale gained some separation with a floater by Kaden Kovar (4) to make the score 10-5. The first quarter ended with Thorndale leading 14-8. The second quarter started just as slowly as both teams went scoreless the first three minutes. Thorndale broke the drought with free throws by Kale Meadors (1) to take a 17-8 lead. The Bulldogs continued their scoring surge to increase their lead to lead to 24-8. Thorndale’s defense was excellent as they didn’t allow a point until a three point play in the last minute of the quarter to make the score 24-11. The Bulldogs went into halftime ahead 27-13.
The first points in the third quarter for Thorndale came from a basket by Meadors to make it a 29-17 lead. Holland came marching back with a run to make the score 29-25, but Thorndale halted their momentum with a layup by Braden Pickel (33) for a 31-25 lead. The third quarter ended with Thorndale ahead 31-27. The first points of the fourth quarter came from a three pointer by Kovar to make it a 34-27 advantage. Kovar continued to stay on fire from three-point range, drilling two more consecutive threes to grow the lead to 40-28, and soon increased their lead to 46-30. The Bulldogs stayed aggressive with a layup by Pickel to make the score 52-35 and would go on to win the game 54-35.
With this victory, Thorndale has an overall record of 20-3 and a perfect district record of 3-0. Up next, the Bulldogs will travel to take on the Hearne Eagles. The game will be on Friday, Jan. 12, and tip off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
