Drumm set for State Cross Country Meet

Thorndale cross country teams competed at the Class 2A Region IV cross country meet on Monday and a Bulldog runner is headed back to state.

Mason Drumm will run at the UIL State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.  The Class 2A boys’ race is scheduled for 10:10 a.m.

This is the second time for the senior to qualify for the state meet, doing so in 2017 as well.  He is just the third boy to ever reach the big race, with others being his teammate Jacob Williamson in 2017 and Keon Mays in 2012.

In the 5,000 meter regional race on Saturday held at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Drumm was 14th overall in a time of 17, minutes and 44 seconds.

The Bulldogs were 14th overall as a team with 364 points.  There were 21 teams and 151 runners overall.

Also completing at the meet for Thorndale were: Jason Penick (69th, 20:16); Garrett Bernstein (95th, 21:24); Ty Pesl (108th, 21:48); Ethan Williamson (126th, 23:24); Blake Roberts (127th, 23:39) and Chance Betak (136th, 24:50).

The Lady Dogs team also competed, earning a 19th place at the region meet with 454 points.  There were 22 teams and 154 runners in the Class 2A girls contest.

Bailee Baker was the top finisher for the Thorndale girls with a two-mile course time of 14:37.  She finished 63rd overall.

Also completing at regionals for the Lady Dogs were: Jayci Paulsen (95th, 15:20); Abby Dickerson (106th, 15:50); Wendy Perales (125th, 16:27); Tristyn Buchanan (126th, 16:31); Alyssa Pachl (131st, 16:53) and Makaelyn Vivas (133rd, 16:54).
