Lady Dogs clinch District Title with 15-1 record

The Thorndale Lady Dogs softball team clinched the District title with a 15-1 record.

They hosted the Milano Lady Eagles on Wednesday, April 10. Thorndale was defeated by Milano, losing 9-2. The Lady Dogs returned to action on Saturday, April 13, when they hosted the Granger Lady Lions. The Lady Dogs were victorious, winning in a tough 1-0 game. 

The lone run came in the second inning when pinch runner, Madison Masek, came home to score on a wild pitch that got past the catcher.

Thorndale still hit the ball well, tallying nine hits in the game. Haleigh Moehling, Karis Ginn, and Allison Owen each collected two hits to lead the team. The Lady Dogs defense was stout and didn’t commit a single error in the field. Karis Ginn was the winning pitcher for Thorndale. She pitched an absolute gem, allowing two hits and zero runs over seven innings while walking one and striking out 15. 

The Lady Dogs traveled to take on the Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars for their regular season finale. Thorndale shut out the Lady Cougars, winning 9-0. 

The Lady Dogs got on the scoreboard in the second inning with four runs and never looked back. Bernice Gonzalez brought Malayya Dodson home to score on a sacrifice fly. The rest of the runs in the inning were scored when Kassidy Eubanks smacked a double to center field for a three run RBI double to make the score 4-0. 

Haleigh Moehling led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Kassidy Eubanks and Bernice Gonzalez each drove in three runs for Thorndale. The Lady Dogs also had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. The Lady Dogs defense was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Karis Ginn earned the win on the circle for Thorndale. She gave up three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking three. 

With this victory, Thorndale finished the regular season with an overall record of 20-10 and an impressive district record of 15-1.
