Lady Dogs fall to Granger after holidays
The Thorndale Lady Dogs girls’ basketball team returned home after the holidays to host the Granger Lady Lions on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The Lady Dogs were defeated by Granger 48-12.
The Lady Dogs had trouble early and trailed 12-1. Thorndale broke the drought with a basket by Kyla Daniell (13) for a 12-3 deficit. That was soon followed with a three pointer by Malayya Dodson (4) to make the score 15-6. The first quarter ended with Thorndale trailing 19-6. The second quarter was a nightmare for the Lady Dogs. They were shut out the entire quarter and went into halftime behind 34-6.
Thorndale scored first in the third quarter with a layup by Emily Northcott (5) for a 34-8 deficit. Granger held the Lady Dogs in check after that and led 43-8 at the end of the third quarter. Thorndale’s first points of the fourth quarter came from a layup by Jacie Leho (20) to make the score 45-10. That was soon followed with a layup by Leho off an assist by Mckynzie Briggs (00) for a score of 48-12, which would be the final score in the game.
With this loss, Thorndale has a record of 12-12 and a district record of 4-1.
Up next, the Lady Dogs will travel to take on the Holland Lady Hornets. The game will be Friday, Jan. 10, and tip off is set for 6 p.m.
