Lady Dogs to start playoffs against Harper Thursday

The Thorndale Lady Dogs softball team traveled to take on the Holland Lady Hornets on Friday. Thorndale shutout Holland, winning 11-0 in six innings due to the ten-run rule.

The Lady Dogs offense was unstoppable, as they scored in every single inning. The Lady Dogs scored four runs in the sixth inning to go up 11-0 and activate the ten run rule. The Lady Dogs batters contributing to the big inning included Emily Reeves, Bernice Gonzalez, and Madison Masek, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Thorndale tallied ten hits in the game. Brook Amidon, Bernice Gonzalez, and Raeghan Carlson each racked up multiple hits for the Lady Dogs. Bernice Gonzalez led the team to victory by driving in four runs and went 2-for-4 at the plate. The Lady Dogs were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error on defense. Karis Ginn led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Thorndale. She allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one.

The Lady Dogs finished the regular season in a tie for second place with the Milano Lady Eagles, so they faced off against Milano in Rockdale on Monday in a playoff seeding game for second place.

Thorndale stayed in it until the end, but Milano pulled away late in the game to beat Thorndale 6-5.  The game was tied at five with the Lady Eagles batting in the bottom of the fifth when Milano singled on a ground ball to first base, driving in the go ahead run. The Lady Dogs tried to retake the lead but fell short in the game.

Thorndale still racked up eight hits in the game. Karis Ginn and Kassidy Eubanks both managed multiple hits for the Lady Dogs. Ginn led the team with three hits in four at bats. Along with playing great on offense, Karis Ginn led things off on the rubber for Thorndale. The righty surrendered six runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out six and walking one.

With this loss, the Lady Dogs will go into the playoffs as a three seed in the district.

Up next for the Lady Dogs will be a bi-district matchup against the Harper Lady Horns. The game will be Thursday at Lago Vista High School and the game time will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Center Point vs Granger game that starts at 4:30 p.m.
