Life Saving Award

Chris Posey and Joseph Posey, of Thorndale, were recently awarded the EMS Citizens of the Year award by the Texas Department of State Health Services at the 2019 Texas EMS Conference in Fort Worth. Last spring they were travelling from Bastrop to Thorndale when they were passed by a car traveling at a high rate of speed. As the car topped the hill, it became airborne and crashed through a fence and into a tree. When they came up on the wreck, they immediately went to render aid. They managed to get the passenger out through the side window. He appeared dazed and confused. The driver, however, was not as lucky. They managed to open his door and get him out of the car. He was bleeding profusely from his leg. The foot was barely attached to the leg. The bone was shattered. They boys controlled the bleeding and pulled the men away from the vehicle to safety. About a minute later the car burst into flames. If they had not been in the right place and the right time, these victims would have been killed, if not by the wreck, by the fire. They saw someone in need of help without thinking of their own safety, went to help a stranger.
