Havens achieves 100th wrestling win as a Yoemen
Brady Havens finished first in his class at a meet in San Antonio and also achieved a fantastic milestone in recording his 100th career win as a Yoemen wrestler.
The Cameron Yoe wrestling team traveled to San Antonio during the weekend of Jan. 12 and 13 to participate in a meet hosted by Lee High School. Cameron had a terrific outing with four top three finishers. Landon Terry finished first in his class, Tayshawn Perez placed third in his class, and Byron Crittendon was third in his class.
Havens was facing a wrestler from Converse Judson in this match. He had the choice to take the top position (the referee position), and since he had not been effective taking his opponent down, due to his opponent taking him down and getting two points, Brady would escape and get one point. It was then that Coach Dale Keen instructed from the corner to Brady that he can put his opponents face on the mat. From then on he controlled his opponent and he got him on his back and pinned him, winning his 100th career match.
“Brady fought the toughest match I have seen,” Coach Dale Keen said. “Going into the third round, he was behind the Converse Judson wrestler 16 to six. He slowly chipped away at the lead until it was 16 to 11, and then Brady pinned him to the mat! He won the weight class and won his 100th lifetime match. Even the ref congratulated him on his effort! Several people asked where we were from. Had to tell them Cameron, Texas!”
They also competed in the Cougar Classic in College Station on Saturday, Jan. 20. It was a quiet meet for the Yoemen, as only one person placed near the top. Sean Perez competed hard and finished in third place in his varsity debut.
Cameron will be back in action again for the district tournaments in Georgetown. The JV will compete Thursday, Jan. 25, at Georgetown High School and Varsity will compete Friday, Jan. 26, at Georgetown East View High School.
