Lady Yoe basketball continues season
The Cameron Lady Yoe girls’ basketball team returned home to host the Lexington Lady Eagles on Friday, Jan. 10. Cameron fell to Lexington, losing 49-22.
The Lady Yoe remained home to host the Rockdale Lady Tigers on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Cameron was defeated by Rockdale, losing 40-25.
Both teams struggled early as there was no scoring in the first four minutes. Rockdale scored the first points of the game on free throws in the fourth minute. The Lady Yoe trailed 4-0, but got on the scoreboard with free throws by Aireana Knight (22) for a 4-2 deficit. Cameron still trailed but closed the gap with a layup by Knight on an inbound pass by Mykayla Scott (23) to make the score 9-4. The first quarter ended with Cameron trailing 11-4.
The Lady Yoe scored first in the second quarter off free throws by Amani Fields (24) for an 11-6 deficit. Both teams went through a scoring drought, but the Lady Yoe ended the slump with a three point make by Davajha Johnson (4) to close the gap to 11-9 in the second minute of the quarter. Cameron went into halftime behind 16-12.
The Lady Yoe scored first in the third quarter with a layup by Fields to tighten the score to 16-14. Cameron continued to fight with a fastbreak layup by Knight to trail 21-18. The Lady Yoe kept up the surge with a three point make by Summer Keith (12) to close the gap to 22-21. Rockdale responded with a 6-1 spurt to lead 28-22 at the end of the third quarter.
Cameron’s first points of the fourth quarter came from a fastbreak layup by Knight in the fourth minute to make the score 32-24. Rockdale pulled away with an 8-1 run to beat the Lady Yoe 40-25.
With this loss, Cameron has a record of 6-17 and a district record of 0-7. Up next, the Lady Yoe will travel to face the Little River Academy Lady Bees. The game will be Friday, Jan. 17, and tip off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
