Lady Yoe compete at Clifton tourney
Last week before the Thanksgiving holiday, the Lady Yoe basketball team headed out to participate in an in-season tournament hosted by Clifton. On Thursday, Nov. 18, they lost the first game against the Maypearl Lady Panthers 78-28. Later that day, they took on the Palmer Lady Bulldogs and lost 52-24. The next day, Cameron took on the Lady Eagles of Hillsboro and were victorious 43-32. Later that day, they had a rematch against Maypearl but came up short 49-14.
On Nov. 23, Cameron came back home to host the Jarrell Lady Cougars, where they would be defeated 56-31.
After a long Thanksgiving break, the Lady Yoe returned to the court and battled the Troy Trojanetes at home on Tuesday night and would fall to Troy 68-40.
The game did not start off well for Cameron as they got into an early 10-0 deficit, which eventually grew to 18-0. The Lady Yoe broke the drought on a layup by Claudia Campos (44) and the first quarter ended with Troy leading 18-2.
Cameron managed to get the score to 20-4 on a layup by Aliya Salazar (30), which was soon followed by a three pointer by Camryn Ward (22) for a 24-9 score. Troy went on an offensive explosion and their lead grew to 31-13. Cameron tried to answer back with a basket by Campos off an amazing assist by Kaly White (3) for a 40-15 game. Halftime ended with the Troy lead at 40-20 off a buzzer beating layup by Campos in transition following a steal.
Troy kept the tough defense and their lead grew to 51-25, with the third quarter ended with Cameron only scoring five points the whole quarter. The score would end up 55-25 on a buzzer beating layup by Troy. The Lady Yoe continued to fight with a three pointer by Campos for a 55-28 game, then a basket by Salazar for a 57-30 game. Cameron tried to stay tough as they got a basket by Amani Fields (24) off an offensive rebound for a 63-36 score, but Troy would come away with the victory 68-40.
This group will be off on Friday and will be back in action on Dec. 7 when they host the Lago Vista Lady Vikings. Tip off is scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. at Yoe Gym.
