Lady Yoe defeat Florence, set for tournament
The Cameron Lady Yoe girls’ basketball team returned to action after the holidays to host the Florence Lady Buffs on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Cameron defeated Florence, winning 41-33.
The Lady Yoe started strong with a 7-0 start, beginning with a basket by Reagan Akin (2). Cameron stayed aggressive on offense with a layup by Aireana Knight (22) for a 9-3 lead.
The Lady Yoe continued their scoring run with another layup by Mykayla Scott (23) to increase their lead to 13-4, which would be the score at the end of the first quarter.
Cameron’s first points of the second quarter were from a layup by Knight to take a 15-9 lead. Cameron kept up their presence inside with an inbound layup by Ava Magre (21) off an assist by Akin for a double digit 19-9 lead.
Knight put the team on her back with four consecutive baskets to take a commanding 25-9 lead. The Lady Yoe went into halftime winning 27-11.
Cameron’s first points of the third quarter were from a layup by Amani Fields (24) to make it a 29-14 advantage.
The Lady Yoe showed some range with a three point make from Akin for a 31-15 lead. Florence finished the third quarter with an 11-0 run to make the score 31-26.
The Lady Yoe scored first in the fourth quarter with two consecutive layups by Fields to take a 35-26 lead and end the drought. Florence continued to rally back and closed the gap to 35-33, but Cameron halted their momentum with a big basket by Akin to make it a 37-33 lead. The Lady Yoe shut out the Lady Buffs the rest of the game to win 41-33.
With this victory, Cameron has a record of 4-4. Up next, the Lady Yoe will remain home to host their in-season tournament during the weekend of December 5-7. They will have two games on Thursday (Travis at 10 a.m. and Rosebud-Lott at 1 p.m.) and one on Friday against Navarro.
