Lady Yoe fall to Franklin and Academy

The Lady Yoe Volleyball team took two tough loses over the week.

The ladies hosted the Franklin Lady Lions Friday, Oct. 11. The Lady Yoe was swept by Franklin 3-0, losing the first set 25-16, the second set 25-13, and the third set 25-18. 

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Lady Yoe remained home to host the Little River Academy Lady Bees. The Lady Yoe fell to Academy, losing 3-1.

The first three points of the first set went to Academy, then Cameron answered back and tied the set at 3. Academy responded with a 6-1 run to lead 9-4. The Lady Yoe broke the drought with an ace by Allie Henson (3) to make the score 9-6, but would fall behind double digits at 18-8. Cameron tried to show some fight with a block by Ka’Sara Brooks (4) for a 19-11 deficit. However, it was not enough and Academy pulled away to win the first set 25-12. 

The first point of the second set was scored by Academy. Cameron fell behind 8-4 but ended the slump with a kill by Ava Magre (6) to make the score 8-5. The Lady Yoe continued to stay alive with a spike by Saydi Wimmer (12) to make it a 12-9 deficit. The Lady Yoe marched back and tied the set at 14 with a big block by Magre, then extended their lead 18-14. Wimmer put the team on her back with a kill followed by two consecutive aces for a 22-18 lead. Academy tried to rally but was stopped with another block from Magre for a 23-20 advantage. The Lady Yoe finished strong to win the second set 25-20. 

The first point of the third set went to Cameron, then the Lady Bees responded with a 4-0 run to lead 4-1. The Lady Yoe broke the drought with a kill by Crystal Daniels (7) for 4-2 score and marched back to tie the set at 5. The Lady Yoe continued to show great toughness on defense with a block by Daniels to trail 7-6. The set stayed even until Cameron fell behind 18-13. Academy pulled away to defeat Cameron 25-14 in the third set.  

The first point of the fourth set was scored by Academy. Cameron kept the set tight with a kill by Kennedy Banks (11) for a 3-2 deficit. Magre came through on defense once again and tied the set at 4 with another block. 

The Lady Yoe continued the block party and took the lead 5-4 on a combined block from Daniels and Magre. The set stayed even until Cameron trailed 12-9, but closed the gap with a kill by Wimmer to make the score 12-10. Academy responded with a 4-1 run to stay ahead of Cameron 16-11. 

The Lady Yoe stayed alive with a big ace by Brooks for an 18-15 deficit and closed the gap with two consecutive kills by Wimmer to trail 18-17. Cameron completed the comeback with a tip kill by Bailey Anderle (9) to tie the set at 20, but the Lady Bees finished the set with five straight points to win the fourth set 25-20. 

With this loss, Cameron has a record of 17-15 and a district record of 2-6. Up next, the Lady Yoe will remain home to host the Lexington Lady Eagles. The game will be on Friday, Oct. 18 and is set for 4:30 p.m.
