Lady Yoe gain experience in Rockdale Tournament

The Cameron Lady Yoe volleyball team participated in an in-season tournament hosted by Rockdale last week. The Lady Yoe finished the weekend with a record of 3-2. 

The Lady Yoe played three games on Thursday, the first game was against the Lampasas Lady Badgers. Cameron defeated Lampasas 2-0. 

The first two points of the first set were scored by Cameron and they took an early lead 5-1. Cameron continued to stay on top with a kill by Saydi Wimmer (12) to take a 9-6 lead. The Lady Yoe continued the scoring barrage with an ace by Mackenzie Mahan (8) to make the score 11-6, then widened their lead to 14-6. 

Cameron remained aggressive with a kill by Crystal Daniels (7) for a 15-8 lead, which was followed with an ace by Allie Henson (3) for a 16-8 advantage. The Lady Yoe continued to dominate with a kill by Kennedy Banks (11) for a 21-12 score, then grew their lead to double digits with an ace by Ka’Sara Brooks (18) to make the score 22-12. Lampasas tried to rally late, but Cameron held on strong to win the first set 25-17. 

The first two points of the second set went to Lampasas. Cameron broke the drought when Brooks jousted the ball over the net for a kill to make the score 2-1. The Lady Yoe tied the set at 2, then Lampasas went on a 6-2 run to lead 8-5. Cameron fought back and closed the gap to 8-7 with an ace by Banks. 

The Lady Yoe tied the set at 8 on a spike by Wimmer, then took the lead 9-8 on a kill by Ava Magre (6). Cameron continued on an 8-3 run and grew the lead to 17-11. The Lady Yoe stayed aggressive with a big swing from Brooks for a 19-13 advantage. Cameron stayed ahead with a kill by Magre to widen their 22-16, which was followed with an ace by Liberty Alonzo (1) to make the score 23-16. The Lady Yoe won the second set 25-18 with a big block by Magre to win the match.

Their second contest of the day was against the Granger Lady Lions. Cameron swept Granger 2-0, winning the first set 25-17 and the second set 25-19. Saydi Wimmer played excellent with five kills along with eight digs. Bailey Anderle was very productive with a half block, a kill, 11 assists, and two digs. Ka’Sara Brooks was terrific, recording three kills, a half block, four aces, and a dig. Kennedy Banks had a fantastic game as she recorded seven kills, an assist, two aces, and four digs. 

Their final game of the day came against the Shoemaker Lady Wolves. Cameron was swept 2-0, losing the first set 25-18 and the second set 25-22. After taking a break from the tournament on Friday, Cameron returned for two final games on Saturday. The first game was against the Bartlett Lassies. The Lady Yoe swept Bartlett 2-0, winning the first set 25-18 and the second set 25-9. 

Liberty Alonzo played very well with four assists along with two aces. Saydi Wimmer was very productive with seven kills along with two digs. Mackenzie Mahan was fantastic, recording a kill, two assists, an ace, and five digs. Ka’Sara Brooks was unstoppable as she recorded nine kills, seven assists, and a block. 

Their final game of the weekend was a matchup with the Lady Rattlers of Navasota, and Cameron was defeated 2-1. The Lady Yoe won the first set 27-25, lost the second set 25-22, and lost the third set 15-7. 

Cameron traveled to take on the Mumford Lady Mustangs on Tuesday, Aug. 27. The Lady Yoe were defeated 3-1. Cameron lost the first set 25-13, won the second set 25-20, lost the third set 25-17, then lost the fourth set 25-22. 

Up next, the Lady Yoe will be participating in an in-season tournament hosted by Richards. Game times are yet to be announced.
