Lady Yoe move to 6-4 with sweep of Caldwell

The  Lady Yoe volleyball team was swept by the Lexington Lady Eagles on Friday 3-0. They lost a tough first set 29-27, 25-21 in the second set, and 25-15 in the third set. 

On Tuesday they hosted the Caldwell Lady Hornets as they celebrated Dig Pink. Cameron swept the Lady Hornets 3-0 in the last home game for Kirsten Marin as it was her senior night, she had two aces and 21 digs.   

The first two points of the first set went to Cameron. An ace by Kaly White (3) made it a 4-1 lead for the Lady Yoe. An ace by Ainsley Driska (4) made it a 6-3 lead. Caldwell came back and made the score 10-8, then tied the score at 10. The Lady Yoe started to pull away again with two straight aces from Lauren Harris (9) for a 13-11 lead, then a kill from Driska improved the lead to 16-13. Cameron grew the lead to 21-17, then a kill from Haley Tucker (6) gave the team a 23-18 lead. The Lady Yoe went on to win the first set 25-18. 

The first point of the second set went to Caldwell. The Lady Yoe quickly retook the lead and increased the score to 4-1 after a kill from Driska. Cameron stayed relentless and their lead grew to 9-1, and with an ace from White, the lead became 13-4. That was followed with a combined block by Sydni Smith (1) and Harris for a double-digit 14-4 lead. Later in the set, the Lady Yoe got another combined block for a 17-6 lead. Cameron continued to extend their lead to 20-7, then got a kill from Jessa Florez (13) for a 22-7 lead. Caldwell marched back and made scored nine straight points to make the score 22-16. Cameron held on with a kill from Tucker for a 23-16 lead and later got a kill from Driska to seal the second set and win 25-20. 

The first point of the third set went to Cameron. Caldwell took a 3-2 lead, but the Cameron took back the lead 5-4 on a kill from Tucker. The set stayed even until the Lady Yoe got an ace from Kirsten Marin (2) for a 9-7 lead. The Lady Yoe began to pull away and got a combined block by Harris and Smith for a 14-9 lead. The lead continued to extend for Cameron with a kill from Driska to make the score 19-11. Caldwell tried to comeback, but the Lady Yoe responded with a block by Smith for a 24-16 lead and the game was sealed with a kill from Tucker to win the third set 25-17. 

Haley Tucker was great with eight kills and 12 digs. Sydni Smith played well with five kills and five blocks. Ainsley Driska recorded three aces, eight digs, and 22 kills. Kaly White had two aces, three kills, six digs, and 41 assists. 

The Lady Yoe move to 6-4 in District play with the win. A win on Friday will clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2014. 

Up next for the Lady Yoe will be a road game against the Florence Lady Buffaloes. The game will be played Friday at 4:30 p.m.
