Lady Yoe set for Franklin in bi-district
The Lady Yoe softball team finished their regular at home against the Academy Lady Bees on Friday.
The Lady Yoe struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Academy, as they were defeated 11-4 to end the regular season. The Lady Yoe watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in the loss.
Academy got things started in the first inning by scoring a run on an RBI groundout. Academy piled on with five more runs in the second inning off of two singles, a double, and a triple to make the score 6-0.
The Lady Yoe tried to show some fight near the end as they scored two runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. The runs in the fourth inning were scored on a ground ball double to left field by Kenzie Lara and a double by Sam Frausto on a line drive to left field. In the fifth inning, Lara drove in two runs with a double on a bunt to pitcher, as Lindsay Talafuse and Mia Wimmer scored due to throwing errors and a passed ball by Academy to make the score 11-4.
Despite the loss, Cameron saw the ball well, racking up eight hits in the game. Lindsay Talafuse and Kenzie Lara each had multiple hits for the Lady Yoe. Lara and Talafuse each collected two hits to lead the team. Navaeh Billingsley started on the mound for Cameron. She went three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on six hits and walking one. Mia Wimmer and Sam Frausto entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two and a third innings and one inning respectively. The two relievers allowed three total runs, two of them were earned, on five hits, and no walks.
With this loss, the Lady Yoe will go into the playoffs as the four seed in the district.
